iTrustCapital, the largest self-directed digital asset IRA technology and services provider in the United States with over $7 billion in crypto assets on its platform1, announced its first integration with Coinbase Asset Management (CBAM)2, allowing accredited investors in CBAM-managed fund strategies to retain participation in tax-deferred IRA accounts.
The integration introduces a CBAM managed Bitcoin (BTC) yield strategy that aims to outperform the price of Bitcoin by providing investors with Bitcoin beta returns and additional yield.
Why this integration matters
In August, the Trump administration signed Executive Order 3, which broadly introduced actively managed crypto strategies into 401k and retirement accounts. Coinbase Asset Management is wholly owned by Coinbase Global, Inc., one of the most trusted brands in cryptocurrency, known for empowering investors with a focus on regulatory compliance and prudent risk management. In partnership with Coinbase Asset Management, iTrustCapital combines extensive experience in operating tax-efficient crypto IRA platforms with a proven track record in managing custodial frameworks and high-touch service components to support the long-term digital asset strategies of approximately 100,000 working professionals across the United States. The result is an institutional yield product with a world-class security infrastructure and a five-star service that opens new opportunities for Bitcoin investors looking to save for retirement.

Anthony Bassili, President of Coinbase Asset Management, said: “Bitcoin is currently worth approximately $2.3 trillion in assets and has established itself as a ‘digital gold’ and ‘store of value’ among retail and institutional investors alike.” Bitcoin’s role as underlying collateral creates opportunities for income generation and higher long-term compound returns, which are core to CBAM’s strategy. The tax efficiency of having a Bitcoin earning opportunity in an IRA allows investors to further prepare for retirement by compounding and protecting their tax-generated income. ”
The integration is expected to begin in Q4 2025 or early Q1 2026 and will begin with iTrustCapital expanding the list of supported assets that IRA customers can hold in their retirement accounts to include spot cryptocurrencies as well as CBAM-managed yield opportunities for eligible accredited investor customers. iTrustCapital CEO Kevin Maloney said, “We are very excited to partner with Coinbase Asset Management on the BTC Yield Strategy. This recognizes the continued growth of digital assets across institutions, our relentless focus on customer experience, and the clear recognition that cryptocurrencies are now part of the retirement savings story.”7
Eligible iTrustCapital8 clients who hold Bitcoin or USD in their IRAs can apply for Bitcoin yield opportunities through CBAM. Yield participations for iTrustCapital clients who opt in and participate in a voluntary manner are held compounded and tax-free within a supported iTrustCapital IRA account, further increasing their total Bitcoin holdings for retirement savings.
