The Japanese Prime Minister emphasized the cultivation of Web3 technology as an important pillar of domestic economic growth.
At the WebX event on August 25th, Prime Minister Isba described Web3 as “a transformative turning point comparable to the Industrial Revolution.” Isba follows Donald Trump’s example as a national leader, taking a different stance on the details, taking part in Web3 events and highlighting technology.
Web3 as a catalyst for domestic economic growth
Emphasizing the domestic impact, PM pointed out the possibility that the Web3 industry, including digital assets, could stimulate local startups and local economies. He cited the “local coin project” in Simane Province. This is to reward external contributors who address local issues regarding digital currencies that are available within the region.
Similarly, Web3 technology is being applied to Osaka and Kansai exhibitions, reflecting Japan’s commitment to strengthening its domestic digital infrastructure. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of overcoming structural challenges such as Japan’s population decline and slowing economic growth through innovative technology and startup initiatives.
Prime Minister Isviva also emphasized the need for international cooperation and referred to the recent Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Yokohama (TICAD 9), and Japan adopted a joint declaration with 34 countries. However, his main focus relies on strengthening domestic industries and revitalizing local economies, positioning Web3 as a tool for national economic rejuvenation.
In contrast, US President Donald Trump has consistently emphasized global cryptocurrency leadership. At events like last year’s Bitcoin Conference, he declared his ambition to make the United States the world’s crypto capital. Trump advocates deregulation of digital assets. Additionally, the strategic use of government-held Bitcoin as a reserve asset prioritizes US domination in the global market.
Both leaders recognize Web3 and digital assets as the centre of their economic strategy, but their priorities are significantly divergent. While Prime Minister Isba has emphasized domestic industry and regional revitalization, President Trump has focused on establishing US hegemony in the global crypto market. The contrast highlights broader strategic differences. While Japan’s approach is locally oriented, the US strategy is globally oriented.
